We built Chasing Bimmer a full enthusiast identity system, from a custom badge-style emblem and modular lockup family to motion graphics and merchandise applications, giving a BMW media brand the visual credibility to stand alongside the culture it covers.

Overview
Chasing Bimmer is a BMW enthusiast media brand covering the full spectrum of BMW ownership, from vehicle reviews and performance upgrades to tuning walkthroughs, maintenance education, and lifestyle content. Rather than operating as a traditional automotive business, the channel built its following as a community-first platform grounded in shared passion and enthusiast culture.
The audience consisted of BMW owners and fans deeply invested in modification, tuning, and automotive media. Because enthusiast communities are heavily identity-driven, the brand needed to feel like a natural extension of the culture it served rather than a corporate layer placed on top of it.
The project required a complete visual identity system capable of functioning across YouTube, social media, motion graphics, merchandise, decals, apparel, and physical automotive applications.
Challenges
Automotive enthusiast branding is one of the most saturated creative spaces in visual design. Generic motorsport clichés, aggressive typography, and visually noisy compositions are everywhere. BMW enthusiasts in particular are brand-conscious and culturally aware, and they quickly recognize when branding feels forced or disconnected from the community.
The challenge was not simply designing a logo. It was creating an identity that felt authentically embedded within BMW culture without directly imitating BMW itself. The system also had to work at small sizes for embroidery and decals, scale to large merchandise formats, and perform in motion without relying on loud transitions.
The scope expanded beyond a single mark from the start. Chasing Bimmer needed a complete visual ecosystem capable of growing across apparel, lanyards, overlays, video intros, community assets, and promotional material.
Objectives
- Create a recognizable, enthusiast-focused automotive identity
- Establish credibility within BMW enthusiast culture without replicating BMW’s own branding
- Develop a modular logo system for digital and physical applications
- Design a badge-style mark suitable for merchandise, decals, and embroidery
- Build a motion-ready identity for video intros and overlays
- Support scalability across YouTube, social media, and community branding
Solutions
Desque centered the branding around a custom “CB” monogram developed using simplified geometric construction. The monogram was built to maximize recognition at small scales, from social profile icons to embroidered patches.
The outer segmented circular framing introduced a subtle reference to wheel motion, RPM gauges, and rotational telemetry, giving the identity a performance-oriented feeling without relying on cliche automotive tropes. The tricolor stripe system served as a deliberate, integrated nod to BMW M performance culture while remaining specific to Chasing Bimmer rather than derivative of it.
The identity system was designed to be modular from the ground up. Multiple configurations were developed, including iconic marks, horizontal and vertical lockups, and light and dark variants. Special attention went to silhouette recognition, contrast handling, and print adaptability so the system could survive any environment it was placed in.
The brand identity
Primary full-color CB badge emblem, the core of the identity system.
Brand applications
The identity system was tested across physical and digital environments to confirm it held up outside a design board. Mockup and application concepts included apparel, automotive surfaces, and accessories, all categories where enthusiast brands live and are judged daily.
Deliverables
- Logo design and brand identity system
- Iconic logo variations (dark and light)
- Horizontal and vertical lockups
- Light and dark brand variants
- Motion graphics and logo reveal animation
- Merchandise mockups (apparel, automotive, lanyard)
- Brand presentation assets
Results
Chasing Bimmer gained a cohesive enthusiast-focused identity system that aligned naturally with BMW automotive culture while maintaining its own recognizable presence. The branding balanced motorsport influence, digital-first presentation, and merchandise usability without leaning on cliche visual shortcuts.
The modular structure improved consistency across YouTube, social media, and community touchpoints while supporting future growth as the brand expanded. The badge-style construction translated well into physical applications, from apparel and decals to automotive accessories, giving the brand the visual credibility it needed to be taken seriously within enthusiast culture.
Assessment
This project succeeded because the identity understood the community it was being built for. BMW enthusiast audiences are visual, detail-oriented, and highly attuned to authenticity. Overdesigning with aggressive motorsport graphics or generic speed aesthetics would have immediately undermined the brand’s credibility. The strongest decision Desque made was exercising restraint, building a system with recognizable silhouette, modular flexibility, and badge-oriented usability rather than chasing visual noise.
Automotive brands live beyond the logo reveal, through merchandise, decals, apparel, motion graphics, and vehicle applications. Pressure-testing the identity across these environments early confirmed that the system was built to grow, not just present well on a board. If you are building a brand in brand design, the process we used here starts with defining your brand identity before moving into system design.
