Super Lap Battle Website Design
We designed and built a centralized digital platform for one of North America's premier time attack motorsport events, replacing fragmented spreadsheet workflows and outdated visuals with a modern, cinematic web ecosystem capable of serving drivers, spectators, sponsors, and race officials simultaneously.

Overview
Super Lap Battle is one of North America’s premier time attack motorsport events, bringing together professional drivers, grassroots racers, tuner enthusiasts, sponsors, and spectators around high-performance automotive competition. The organization sits at the intersection of competitive racing, tuner culture, live entertainment, and automotive media coverage.
Because of the scale and complexity of the event ecosystem, the platform needed to operate as far more than a marketing website. It had to function as a centralized digital hub serving event schedules, competition rules, racer and team information, ticket sales, livestream access, and spectator onboarding, all while visually representing the energy of modern motorsport culture.
Challenges
The organization managed large volumes of race, driver, and operational data through spreadsheet-based workflows during live events. These spreadsheets tracked racer information, lap times, vehicle classifications, competition standings, and event logistics, and they worked well internally.
The problem was the disconnect between those internal systems and the public-facing website. Updating the website separately from the race management spreadsheets created duplicated work and increased the risk of outdated or inconsistent race data during live event weekends. At the same time, the previous digital experience lacked the presentation standards expected from a nationally recognized motorsport brand.
The platform also needed to serve multiple distinct audience groups. Drivers, teams, spectators, sponsors, and livestream viewers all required different types of information, but each still needed a cohesive experience across the full platform.

- Improve spectator onboarding and event accessibility across all audience types
- Maintain strong visual cohesion across highly technical pages like schedules, rules, and track maps
- Support sponsor visibility and centralize all event communication into a unified platform
Solutions
Visual direction
The visual identity of the website was designed to move away from the outdated aesthetics common in automotive web, specifically forum-inspired layouts, template-driven structures, and overly corporate racing graphics.
We adopted a more cinematic and editorial direction, drawing from contemporary tuner culture, esports presentation, and motorsport photography. Oversized environmental typography was implemented throughout the site to create visual consistency across otherwise technical pages, allowing sections like Track Maps, Rules, Schedules, and Guides to maintain strong brand presence without sacrificing usability. A restrained color palette and aggressive use of negative space helped preserve readability despite the volume of information throughout the platform.
Information architecture
The website was structured as a full event ecosystem rather than a traditional promotional site. Content architecture was organized around multiple user groups, with each section designed to serve a specific operational purpose while remaining visually connected to the overall platform.
Large informational pages were broken into modular sections to improve readability, scanning behavior, and content pacing. This approach was especially important for highly technical sections like competition regulations, event schedules, and track information, where the goal was to make dense content feel structured and digestible rather than overwhelming.
Custom spreadsheet integration
The most significant technical solution was a custom integration workflow connecting the organization’s existing Excel-based race management system directly into the website. Rather than replacing workflows the organization already trusted, we built a system that automatically pulled race data into the public-facing platform from the same spreadsheets used during live events.
This eliminated manual website updates during race weekends and significantly improved operational efficiency, data consistency, and live event workflow management. The organization preserved its existing internal systems while the public-facing platform was modernized around them.

Results
The custom spreadsheet integration system significantly reduced operational friction during live events by eliminating the need to update the website separately from race management workflows. Race information could be managed through the organization’s existing spreadsheets while simultaneously updating public-facing data through the platform.
The restructuring of schedules, guides, track information, and spectator content created a more centralized and navigable experience across all audience types. The modular platform structure created a scalable foundation capable of supporting future events, expanded race data, and ongoing media updates without requiring major architectural changes.
The visual direction gave Super Lap Battle a significantly more modern and cohesive digital presence aligned with contemporary automotive culture and motorsport audiences, helping the organization present itself as modern, immersive, and professionally organized rather than relying on outdated motorsport web conventions.
Assessment
This project was less about building a traditional marketing website and more about designing operational infrastructure around a live motorsport ecosystem. The most important decision Desque made was recognizing that the organization’s existing spreadsheet workflow was not the problem. Many agencies would have attempted to replace that system entirely, introducing unnecessary complexity and operational disruption. Instead, we built modern digital infrastructure around workflows the organization already trusted and understood.
From a design perspective, one of the strongest outcomes was maintaining visual cohesion across highly technical pages that could easily have become fragmented or purely administrative. Sections like schedules, rules, guides, and track maps still retained strong brand identity while handling large amounts of information across multiple audience groups.
